Coos County Victim’s Assistance Program

Services provided by the Victim’s Assistance Program:
• Support through the criminal justice system (case status information/updates, accompaniment to court, assistance in preparing to testify at hearings, general information about the process.)
• Advocacy for victim rights.
• Assistance with restitution and property return.
• Assistance with the Crime Victim’s Compensation Program.

The participation and cooperation of crime victims is a valued part of the prosecution process. To the extent practicable, the State will consult with crime victims who request to be informed about plea discussions before the final plea arrangements are made.

Only the State can drop charges in a criminal proceeding. The State is responsible for holding offenders accountable for their actions when they break the law. This ensures that the law is enforced consistently and that the community need for justice is met.
