Cans of Comfort
Our Can of Comfort™ program was an immediate expression of support for victims of violent crime and their families. Through partnerships with police officers, EMTs, hospital trauma teams, and other community support agencies, they were given out at the scene of the crime or immediately afterward.
These quart-size cans of candy contained a 96-Hour Survival Guide™ with critical first steps to take, tips to help victims through trauma, agencies to contact, and a link to the Circles of Comfort website. They also included a personal letter from Circles of Comfort Founder, Vickie Walker, offering encouragement and hope.
Salt Lake City law enforcement officials endorsed the program as an important means for giving information to victims. Circles of Comfort worked with agencies across the country to bring Cans of Comfort to multiple communities, creating a lasting impact in victim support and immediate crisis response.
Educational Fund
The Circles of Comfort Education Fund was established to help offset the cost of education for children who had lost a parent as an innocent victim of a violent crime. It was a direct result of Vickie's own experience after her husband's death. She not only had to deal with a loss of income but also the tremendous stress of worrying about how she'd pay for her children's education. An education fund became one of her top priorities when she founded Circles of Comfort.
The organization worked to build the fund with the support of donors. Individuals were able to apply for grants, scholarships, and funding for books or other educational expenses.
